Simple Communication Strategies for an Effective Workplace

All Categories, Blog

Communication is critical in the workplace, and simple communication strategies can have an incredible impact on the overall business of an organization, the organization’s reputation to the public, and employee engagement. Clear communication in an organization helps everyone know what they will contribute and are responsible for thus helping keep everyone in the organization, both employees and stakeholders focused and aligned, working towards a similar mission.

Maintain Consistency in your Communication

All communication in your organization whether verbal or non-verbal should be in line with the organization’s brand, mission, and values. Any workplace is a melting pot of communication among employees, different departments, suppliers, and stakeholders. The bigger the workforce, the greater the chances of conflict and misunderstandings arising. Keeping the communication guidelines clear and consistent will help avoid such cases.

Two-Way Communication

Open communication means receiving feedback from your employees on what could be improved in the company’s culture and also ideas for better customer satisfaction. It could be either anonymously, face to face, or via email. Take criticism constructively and use it to improve the organization’s culture. Encouraging employees to speak their minds, helps them feel empowered and leads to better team collaboration.

Celebrate Achievements

Feedback should not just flow one way. As a manager, it is important to recognize personal and team achievements publicly thereby boosting morale which can have a positive impact on productivity.

Give Clear and Simple Instructions

Unclear communication can delay projects so team leaders should always strive to give direct, detailed, and easy-to-understand instructions. This can be done through e-mail, video chat, or a management tool. Better yet, to ensure each member of your team gets the message you can send it through multiple channels. Plan for meetings and conversations so that you can effectively explain and clarify your thoughts on the set expected goals.

Remember effective communication does not happen by accident. Within any organization, it is essential to create a  formal, healthy, and efficient communication process for long-term success.
